You'd think I'd be used to it by now, with all these broken promises and compromises, but the truth is you never really learn to live with disappointment. Nor you should. If anything, it only gets worse.
Now I understand why Madame Bovary did what she did, living beyond her means, the first real advocate of retail therapy. It makes it a little better for a little while, buying something for yourself comes with a dazzling high. Then it passes. And you're left feeling worse off than before. But like most things that are bad for us, it was great while it lasted.
I need to go shopping again.
